"Where The Trails Return" DH Cancelled

On the heels of the cancellation of last month's Dreamcatcher DH, the Trinity River Pirates have cancelled this weekend's Where the Trails Return downhill.

Hopefully, these setbacks are only temporary and they can get their North Coast DH racing back on track.

Dreamcatcher Cancelled

Sad news that the Trinity River Pirates' Dreamcatcher Downhill race has been cancelled . . .

We apologize for the shortcoming on our last race, the Magic Mushroom DH and for cancelling the current 7/22/06 Dreamcatcher DH.

The TRP core group has dwindled to two individuals and it has become virtually impossible to plan, prepare for and host races.

We do not know at this time for sure whether or not we will even be able to host the August Annual Race as we do not have the support of the Tribal Sovereign Days Planning Committee and don't know when we will be able to recruit the help necessary to once again host races in a professional manner.

We will make an official decision and announcement on the August race soon.

We hope they can pull off their annual "Where The Trails Return" event.

RACE REPORT: 2006 Magic Mushroom

The Trinity River Pirates have posted the 2006 Magic Mushroom results. It looks like they went ahead with the downhill, just in the twilight. Props to Jared Delong, who won the Men's Open Class, and Ray Williams Jr., who took the Junior Open Class.

Magic Mushroom Race Change

Due to safety concerns, the Trinity River Pirates have modified the Magic Mushroom Speedway DH event:

In case you are unaware, TRP has reformatted this race to be a daytime 2X mountain cross event rather than a timed night race. We will still be hosting a sick night ride at the same time as previously posted, lit up with all sorts of weird and cool lighting. We have come to this decision as a matter of safety.

The MTX race will be a head to head, single elimination bracket with no entry fee or NORBA license required. Racing begins at 6 PM. The night riding (non-timed) will begin at 9 PM or whenever it get dark enough.

2006 Magic Mushroom Speedway Update

The Trinity River Pirates have posted an update on the upcoming Magic Mushroom Speedway race:

At dark the race will begin to go into motion. Event staff will fire the generators and the Magic Mushroom course shall come to life under the moon and stars. I expect that this will be rather dramatic. At least for me!

Riders will then shuttle to the top of the course and await their turn to descend into a tunnel of christmas lights, black lights, floods and whatever type of lighting we can get our hands on. I am hoping to get ahold of a fog machine or two for some of the steeper parts! There may be ghetto blasters pumping sick tunes at some areas of the course. Who knows what you will encounter? All I can say for sure at this time is that although you will not be allowed to use a bike light the course will be lit well enough for you to throw down.

The race format will be three runs combined times. Lowest times win.

RACE REPORT: 2006 Tish Tang Television DH

So the results are in from this weekend's 2006 Tish Tang Television Downhill. Congratulations to Scott Fellers who posted a race best 2:06 time, edging out Matt Cipes by 10 seconds. Tish-Tang TV Rescheduled

From the Trinity River Pirates website: "Hate to tell you but we have rescheduled the DH for this weekend to June 3, 2006. We pushed the race back a week due due to several reasons but mainly because of the weather and not being able to spend enough time preparing the course for the race. Dig day help would be greatly appreciated if you are interested." I've updated the schedule and event info.

Magic Mushroom Speedway DH 2006

THIS RACE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO A MTX EVENT.

In addition to delaying the Tish Tang Television DH race, the Trinity River Pirates have posted some details on their June downhill race (Magic Mushroom Speedway). And it's another innovative one: "This race will be held under the moon and stars. The trail will be lit with all manner of multicolored lighting available including glow sticks, black lights, christmas lights, and halogen floods for the technical sections. The trail is rather short and fast with minimal technical areas. Bike lights will not be allowed, however, rest assured we will make sure that you are able to see the trail well enough to mob." It looks like the race will begin at dark with some practice time beforehand. Three runs combined times format will crown the winner. Course details are here.

Tish Tang Television DH 2006

The Trinity River Pirates, fresh off last weekend's Slippery Eel Chainless DH, have scheduled three new DH races for this summer: Tish Tang Television DH 2006, Magic Mushroom Speedway DH 2006 (tentatively 06/24/06) and the Dreamcatcher DH 2006 (tenatively 7/22/06). I'm posting information about the Tish Tang Television race today and I will add posted for the other races when the dates get confirmed.

The Tish Tang Television downhill race will be held in Hoopa, CA (just north of Eureka, CA) on the Breakneck/Translator trail (since it's under the TV tower). This is the first race on this trail and best time of two runs wins. No entry fee with practice in the morning and race start at 1 PM.

Slippery Eel Results Posted

The Trinity River Pirates have posted the results from this weekend's Slippery Eel chainless downhill event.

Congratulations to Jared Delong (Lost Coast Art Gallery) who posted 4:00 and 4:01 runs to beat Hank Matteson (SWD Racing / Trinity River Pirates) and Jake Todd (Revolution Bicycle Repair).

Late April Race Updates

Here are some updates on some of the races scheduled through the end of this month:

• The LemurianGuy has posted some trail pictures over at MTBR for the April 29th Lemurian Shasta Classic course. It looks like they may also be posting GPS trail profiles. The trail doesn't look too muddy at all.
• MTBR has posted some trail pictures from next weekend's Napa Valley Dirt Classic course. It looks like it might still be a little bit wet.
• There are no updates for Velo Promo's Glory Hole MTB race. Although the race is still listed on their MTB race page, there are no details posted and they haven't responded to email inquiries. After the Iron Angels race was cancelled earlier this year, this one may also be in trouble. I'll will keep you updated. UPDATE (04/18/06): It's on. See here for details.
• There are also additional details on The Slippery Eel Chainless downhill (DH) race. The Trinity River Pirates have also tentatively scheduled a few more races for this summer.

I'm heading out to the Napa for the Dirt Classic next weekend (assuming that it isn't raining buckets like today), so I should have some more updates this week.

Slippery Eel Chainless 2006 Announced

On the heels of the announcement for the "Where The Trails Return", the Trinity River Pirates have scheduled a new and unique gravity event for Hoopa, CA (north of Eureka). The Slippery Eel Chainless 2006 is a pure gravity downhill race -- no chains on the bikes, just momentum (The guys will have equipment onsite to remove/replace your chains). This event will be run on the Slippery Eel trail and have both A lines and B lines (men, women and youth).

2006 Where The Trails Return (DH) Scheduled

So I haven't heard anything about these so-called Trinity River Pirates (they DO have a kickass picture of a dog wearing body armor on the front page) and it appears that I missed the first two races, but I'll include it anyway:
The Hoopa Valley Tribe’s Where The Trails Return 2006 is a downhill (DH) race north of Eureka, CA being held on August 12th and 13th. It looks like a cool grassroots affair with two different course ("A" line and "B" line) and a pretty impressive prize package. And they've got a cool website.
