The folks from Sand Hill Racing has posted some more info on the November 8th, 2008 Race4Tara fundraiser/race:It will be a Mtn Cross (aka 4-X) race with the usual USA Cycling categories (age break-outs in beginner, sport, expert, Pro/semi pro, plus a category for the Industry people.) Pro's need to show a pro license. For the Industry Cup, based on how many entries we receive we will either have the industry folks ride with the regular categories and keep track of over-all points, or we will let them have their own race. USA Cycling One-Day licenses ($5) will be available at sign-ups. $35 pre-reg $40 race day, Free Parking, HUGE RAFFLE ($1 and $5 tickets).Registration for the race has already opened over at BikeReg.

Contra Costa county has decided to do construction ON VASCO RD Sat 11/17 & Sun 11/18. They say as much as 2 HOUR DELAYS ARE EXPECTED!! One of the new venues is Tamarack Resort, at McCall, Idaho, which hosts the series finale, August 30 - September 1. This event is scheduled so as to allow the US Olympians to return from their races in Beijing, 22-23 August, and still compete for the series win. "We wanted the top athletes to have an opportunity to race in the finals, they have expressed a desire to do so, and we are more than happy to oblige," says series director Jeff Frost.Good to see that they nailing this down early this year. I am excited about the Tamarack event -- I may have to make the long drive up to Idaho. Here's the official schedule:
The other new venue is Windham Resort, New York, July 12-13. "Plattekill Mountain is the gravity base of New England, there's a huge gravity crowd in and around that area. We're excited to be going there for that, but also, the venue is two hours southwest of Mt Snow, the national championships venue, and our race is the weekend before. It's the last chance to qualify for the nationals," explains Frost.
The 2007 series saw continued growth in participant numbers, with 10,000 entrants and 14,000 starts. "I think we've found our plateau, Our events have become 70% regional and 30% national, which is a very healthy mix. This series is a standalone and has nothing to do with NORBA. As our reputation grows as a standalone entity, so does the pull from the region surrounding the event," says Frost.

Sand Hill has been asked to host a benefit race on Tara's behalf. We have chosen November 17th because it is the next available Saturday on the calendar ... Although many of you prefer the excitement of our dual slalom course, we have chosen Mountain-X as the race format because it doesn't take as long to run.
There will be a raffle (So far we have Fox Shox, Fox Racing, USA Cycling, Gravity Addix, AllOut Productions, RideSFO, etc.). USA Cycling has waived all permit and insurance fees and Sand Hill will not charge for parking that day. Organizers for the Sea Otter Classic, a Celebration of Sport, announced today the event dates for the 18th annual event would be May 1- 4, 2008. At a recent strategic planning meeting, the event's directors considered several factors in determining the move into early May. Key factors included the probability of better weather conditions and the likely schedules of national and international racing and event calendars for 2008.This should certainly scramble next year's schedule, but at least they decided it early.

With the upcoming 2007 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup season on the horizon, Competitors intending to compete in the Cross Country, 4-Cross and/or Downhill categories are reminded of the UCI regulations that govern who is eligible to participate. According to the UCI, athletes must meet one of the following criteria:This doesn't apply to Marathon riders.
- Have a minimum of 20 UCI points for the individual UCI Mountain Bike classification as of December 31 of the previous year (2006) for the format in question. (XC, DH, 4X).
- Obtain, during the current season, a minimum of 20 UCI points in the classification applicable for the qualification in the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup event in which the rider wishes to participate.
- Riders belonging to a UCI Mountain Bike Trade Team. A maximum of 10 riders per format (XC, DH, 4X).

Here are the spring dates:Sand Hill Gravity Park is located near Antioch in the East Bay Area. Check the archives for reports on last year's Spring and Fall series.We are completely rebuilding the Dual Slalom course over the winter, and Gravity Addix has purchased an electronic eye timing system (Yaaayyyy!!!) ... Sign-ups from 8- 10 am. Qualifying for Dual Slalom starts at 10:15 and the heat races for the four-cross will start at 11 am.
