2010 Prairie City Fall Flash Announced

pcrs.png

Following on the popular Spring/Summer race series, Bicycling Events / Prairie City Race Series has announced their Fall Flash series:

This Series came into being in 2003 because YOU all asked for it!  This Series is un-sponsored and supported entirely by your participation!  It is a "compact" version of our regular season...the "FLASH" courses are a little shorter, flatter and faster than our Spring season courses because of the limited sunlight hours... other than that, same great fun! These races are great for the first time racer or the Expert looking more training.

Online registration will be open Thursday through Monday during the Series. Registering online instead of waiting to register on race day will save you $10.

Dates:  August 25 and September 1,8,15

RACE REPORT: 2009 PCRS Fall Flash #1

After a summer mostly full of knee problems, I returned to racing tonight at the local weeknight series, Prairie City. It was a perfect night for racing -- the 100F temperatures never materialized. We used the standard northward course of about 3 miles in distance and 200 feet of climbing.

Results and picture are already posted .

I won't go into my race (let's just say I was happy with how I rode but I need to go a bit easier on my tires to actually finish...) but I did take some quick video:

Next race in the series in Wednesday, August 26th near Folsom, CA.

2009 Prairie City Fall Flash Opens Registration

My favorite (and hometown) weeknight race series has opened registration for their fall edition:
The Fall FLASH Series is unsponsored and supported entirely by YOU!

A little lower key but the same great racing as our regular Series. The courses are a little shorter due to limited sunlight hours and we add a Cyclocross class. Please check HERE for all the details.

If you need to register you can save $10 and valuable time (your's and ours!) on race day so please pre-register by going to THIS page.
People that raced in the Spring series don't have to reregister (You can check the 2009 racer list HERE).

The Prairie City Race Series is held in the Prairie City OHV near Folsom, CA (east of Sacto). It is a short XC course (4-5 mile laps) and will run on August 19th, 26th, September 2nd, 9th and 16th.

RACE REPORT: Prairie City Fall Flash 1

Since it was the start of the fall season at Prairie City weeknight races, I dragged my lazy ass decided to go out and get in some practice for the upcoming fall races.
SANY0003.JPG

It was standard Fall Flash fare: smaller crowd (maybe 150 people and only 12 in my Sport class), shorter course (3.25 miles/lap) with a bit less climbing (300' per lap). All of which fit me fine, since I hadn't raced in a bit.

My race actually went really well. The course was fast but a bit technical (sandy with sharp turns) in a few places. I was able to stay with the lead group in class for the first lap, drifted a bit back over the next two laps (+1 and +2 minutes per lap for the second and third laps :( ). However, I felt relatively good and probably placed better than usual. The only downer was a fairly epic digger that I took, literally on the last UPHILL. Not quite sure what happened -- was out of the saddle peddling hard and the front tire must have washed out in a rut. Whatever if was, I was down in a flash and probably lost a spot of two in the standings.

Here is some pretty raw video that I shot after I had finished:

Results will probably be posted sometime Thursday night.

2008 Prairie City Race Series Fall FLASH

Just as the Spring PCRS is wrapping up (tonight's race is the finale), the Fall Flash series has been announced.

The Fall Flash series is "... un-sponsored and supported entirely by your participation! It is a "compact" version of our regular season...the FLASH courses are a little shorter, flatter and faster than our Spring/Summer season courses because of the limited sunlight hours... other than that, same great fun! These races are great for the first time racer or the Expert looking more training. The Fall FLASH Series has been made 'famous' because of the following 'features': NO trophies! NO raffle prizes! NO schwag! NO t-shirts! NO whining...doh! Just braggin' rights and mostly: GREAT FUN!"

The Fall series also has a cyclocross class for those of you looking for some early CX season training.

Dates for this year's Fall Flash series are:
  • August 20 & 27
  • September 3, 10 & 17
Races cost $25 for your first race (+$10 for race day registration) and then $12/race afterwards. The races are held at the same Prairie City Off Road Vehicle Park near Sacramento, CA (actually closer to Folsom on I-50).

For more information consult Prairie City Race Series Fall FLASH Series webpage.

PCRS Fall #3 Video and Pictures

The pictures from last night's PCRS Fall Flash #3 have been posted.

I also edited together some of my video that I shot after I finished my race:

I'll update this post when I see the results. Results have been posted.

PCRS Fall Flash #3

Tonight was my first race back since getting food poisoning a few weeks ago, so I thought I might share some photos and (hopefully) video from the Prairie City Fall Flash #3.

SANY0019.JPG

As most people who have had a significant layoff from racing will tell you, you should prepare for an ass-whooping your first race back. The PCRS crowd did not disappoint. I got out too fast for the first lap, lost the lead pack at the second lap marker and then was on a unpleasant ride for the last lap. I also didn't dial in my rear suspension correctly - the course has a lot of square edge small hits and waterbar like dips - and spent much of the first lap pogo-ing. In with the bad race, I didn't DNF or DFL (I think).

The course was pretty standard for the fall flash races: 2.87 miles per lap and about 220' climbing per lap.

I'll have a video clip and results tomorrow.

It is a short 4 race series August 22nd, 29th, September 5th & 12th, 2007. The "FLASH" courses are a little shorter, flatter and faster than our spring/summer season courses because of the limited sunlight hours... and we also include A, B and C categories for CYCLOCROSS. RACE REPORT: PCRS Fall 3

Another Prairie City Fall Flash race is in the books. Last night's race was 2.6 miles with 245ft of climbing per lap and suprisingly clear air conditions (Folsom has been blanketed with fairly heavy smoke during the day due to the Ralston fire in Auburn).

Photos have been posted here and results should be here sometime tonight. Next Wednesday is the final race for the season.

RACE REPORT: PCRS Fall 2

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to race out at Prairie City last night but it might have been for the best. Apparently, this was one of the more technical courses, leading to a few mishaps.

Results haven't been posted but they should be here tonight.
