RACE REPORT: 2007 Shasta Lemurian

Results have been posted for last weekend's Shasta Lemurian:
Congratulations to Long Course winners Tim Olson (Chico, CA) and Sarah Maile (Sacramento, CA), who edged out Sharon Hill (San Jose, CA) by 11 seconds. The course looked similar to last year's event, though maybe a little bit more climbing.

A few race reports and photos have been posted over at MTBR. Redding.com also has a few photos.

RACE REPORT: Lake Sonoma

A few reports have surfaced about last weekend's new Lake Sonoma Series:
This Saturday turned out to be better than I had imagined. 36 riders showed up to open the summer at Lake Sonoma on the wonderfully refurbished single track, raced, drank, ate, and were merry. Some came from as far away as Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Davis, Sacramento, and Vancouver Canada...[more]
I'm not sure if they actually keep score out there -- we may or may not see results.

NMBS #2 Firestone (Santa Ynes Valley)

NORBA held a partial events at the old Firestone Walker (new Santa Ynes Valley) races this weekend. It was a partial event in that the XC and Short Track events were national events while the gravity events were not. Velonews has a good set of articles on the nationals events:No word on the non-pro or gravity event results yet.

CHDH #1 Full Results

NorCal Racing This Weekend: April 27 - 29

This weekend you've got lots of racing options, but chances are you'll need a bit of a roadtrip to get there:
  • Up north is this year's running of the annual Shasta Lemurian. Held north of Redding, CA, the Lemurian is the traditional opening of the "Way NorCal" racing season. You can see maps and photos from last year's events in the archives.
  • Billy Cross racing is back with a new name ("Lake Sonoma Series"), a new look and new organizers in the North Bay. From the organizers at bikeMonkey.com: "With the help of many volunteers, nearly 200 man hours of work has gone into revitalizing 4.5 miles of some of the funnest, twistiest single track this side of the moon. The original Billy Cross races are back, under new directorship, and under a new name - The Lake Sonoma Series. 6 races, six months. Registration is only $20 and it includes burgers and drinks! There aren't even any freaking NORBA fees!!"
  • Finally, this weekend also bringa the closest pass of NORBA to Norcal. The 2007 Firestone Walker is now a NORBA event so if you want to see the big show, truck down towards San Luis Obispo.
It should be a great weekend.

RACE REPORT: PCRS Spring #4

Photos have been posted for the fourth PCRS Spring race. It looks like there were a lot drier conditions than last week and the same large crowd of racers.

Cal State Championship Series (Details)

A good thread over at MTBR explains the California State Championship series split into NorCal and SoCal plus the one day championship. Some of the text:
For years mountain bike racers have enjoyed the California State Championship Series. With races as far south as San Diego and as far north as Humboldt County, the series provided racers with opportunities to experience the varied terrains and beauty of California. But the series was also at times very difficult due to the sheer size of the state, with racers sometimes facing a round trip of 1500 miles or more. So for 2007 the state was divided in two to create a Southern California State Championship Series and a Northern California State Championship Series, with Team Bigfoot coordinating the NorCal races and Team Big Bear seeing to the details of the SoCal series.

It wasn’t long before some sharp racer asked, “If I win my NorCal title and someone down South takes my category’s SoCal title, who’s the overall California State Champ?” So Team Bigfoot CEO Vic Armijo worked with Tom Spiegel of Team Big Bear in taking a page from NORBA’s pro championship and doing one-day events for each discipline, Cross-Country, Short-Track XC, Super-D and Downhill. For ’07 the coveted overall California State Championship will be decided at the Sock Guy Lagrange Fall Classic in Weaverville, California. Next year the overall will be decided in SoCal, probably Big Bear and Fontana. “Ideally we would have liked to have the overall event earlier in the season,” says Armijo, “But the only other NorCal venue on the calendar that could host all the disciplines is the Bigfoot Classic, which due to scheduling constraints has to be the same weekend as the USA Cycling National Championships in Mt. Snow, Vermont.”

So Weaverville it is, located about 30-minutes West of Redding.
When they talk about Weaverville, this is the Lagrange Fall Classic on October 21st weekend.

RACE REPORT: Napa Valley Dirt Classic

Results have been posted for 2007 Napa Valley Dirt Classic. In this year's Men's Pro race, David Yakaitis edged Mark Weir by 27 seconds for the win (although both may have been beaten by Semi-Pro Corey Ward). In the Ladies Pro race, Emily Van Meter edge Barbara Howe.

A race report (along with some photos) is posted over at MTBR.

Rainy Sunday

If you are getting up later this morning to go do the CHDH #1, Napa Valley Dirt Classic or the Jetway Rainbow Ridge Challenge, you'd better grab your rain gear, breakout the towels for the truck and dress warmly.
It's raining cats and dogs through the Bay Area and Tahoe's getting snow.

MTBR Special Sea Otter Site

MTBR.com has posted a special section filled with stories, photos, race results and videos from last weekend's Sea Otter Classic. Well worth a look-see.

RACE REPORT: PCRS Spring #3

Photos have been posted for the third Prairie City Race Series. Tonight's race was held under beautiful conditions.

The organizers also announced that mandatory upgrades are coming next week:
Unlike years previous where upgrades were encouraged but optional, this year we are implementing a new system to ensure fair, quality racing in each class through Race Director controlled upgrades. This means if you are in the points hunt it is best to be in your proper competitive class right from the beginning. SO... similar to NORBA rules if you place in the top 3 in your first 3 races be prepared to be upgraded.
Results will be posted when they are available. Results are up.

Tahoe Sierra 100 coming ?

No confirmation on this, as I have only saw it on a MTBR posting and heard about it through some other people, but:
The Tahoe-Sierra 100 miler and 4 person team stage race is coming. Its been two years in the works and its almost ready. This event will be one of a kind. The views are great and lots of single track. There will be a 100 mile race and a two day team stage race. 50 mile stage for each team member, lots of team strategy will come into play. This event will benefit the high country trails systems that are in need of lots of work.
And this small bit on the Downieville Classic site:
the lowdown on the Sierra Crown trans-sierra mountain bike stage race
7 days / 6 nights / 2 person teams / BIG adventure
Yes, it sounds cool.
