Lake Sonoma Finale Moved

The final date on the Lake Sonoma Series schedule has been moved to avoid conflicting with the Downieville Classic:

We've swapped the Lake Sonoma Series Finale from July 10 to July 24. Now Downieville doesn't have to cancel their race.

I've updated the calendar.

Bike Monkey Announces 2010 Schedule

The good folks over at Bike Monkey [website, magazine, promotions] have announced their 2010 event lineup. I'll skip to the MTB specific stuff:

Boggs 5 (FIVE!) - April 3rd, 2010. There are hardly even a dozen spots left when I last checked so if you didn’t get in already, it might be too late. This event has grown by exponential reaches each year and the excitement we’re all sharing about turning 5 is through the roof. We can’t wait to see you there! In a couple short weeks we’ll be designing a brand new route.

Lake Sonoma Series - May 8th, June 12th, July 10th. Only three races this year, and more sun. We’ve tried it all, and from what we can tell Lake Sonoma is best served hot. Mostly it’s because we don’t want to have to take a single sip of beer home after the race is over, but it’s also fine camping weather too.

Annadel? — keep your hopes up! Things are going well, but if plans continue as they have been we may be dialed in for August-somethin’.

SoNoMas - August 28th (tentative). SoNoMas last year SUCKED. I’ll be the first to admit that. It was ridiculously hot, we ran out of water and cut the race short. It was a rough patch, and we don’t have many. So we took some things to heart. First off, one loop around Lake Sonoma is tough enough. So we’re going to be a little more realistic this year and keep it to just that–one lap for everyone; 25 miles of pure suffering and bliss. More details will soon follow about this event, but mark your calendars, and get ready for what will be one of the toughest XC races in the region!

They also have Levi’s GranFondo and the CXSR series coming back.

2009 Lake Sonoma Series #1 Results

Results from the first Lake Sonoma Series race of 2009 have been posted.

Congrats to Jim Hewitt who won the Pro Men's, Jordy Cortes who took the Single Speed title and Victoria Yoham who the Ladies Experts honors.

2009 Lake Sonoma Series

BikeMonkey has just released the schedule for this year's Lake Sonoma XC series:

The long-awaited 2009 series of racing at Lake Sonoma has been confirmed and scheduled. The dates for this year’s series are as follows:

• March 21st
• June 20th
• September 19th
• December 19th

The race series has been modified from last year’s schedule to coincide with the change in season, giving us 4 different courses for 4 different events. Each race counts towards the series overalls and as always food and beverages are INCLUDED in the race entry fee. Unfortunately to cover our costs we had to raise it to $30 per person but we hope that won’t scare you away… Guaranteed are kick-ass good times, fun races, great competition and camaraderie.

Lake Sonoma Special This Weekend

July is usually the month where it is simply too friggin hot to race up in the North Bay, so the Lake Sonoma Series skips it and picks back up in August. Not this year. Instead of going sans July, they've moved it to an evening start. Here are some of the high points:

THE COURSE: At 14 miles, this is going to make the Series Loop feel like a ride around Lake Ilsanjo. If you doubt your fitness level please consider bail out options when they present themselves. Lake Sonoma Series #3 Preview

Saturday is June installment of the Lake Sonoma XC series:

No Lake Sonoma Race This Weekend

Hey everyone, it would appear that I fubar'd the schedule for the Lake Sonoma Series a bit:

2008 Lake Sonoma #1 Results

Lake Sonoma Series #1 results have been posted.

It looks like the course had approximately 5 mile laps with a 1000' climbing per lap.

NorCal MTB Racing this weekend: March 22 - 23

This weekend brings us a bit more diversity for your racing. Although both races are on Saturday, you have a choice between downhill and cross country:

• CCCX Spring DH 2: I posted the course details on this yesterday. The race is held in Toro Park, which is between Monterey and Salinas off Hwy 68. The race costs $35 ($25 for juniors).
• Lake Sonoma #1: this is the first Lake Sonoma series race of the year. Held in the North Bay near Geyersville at Lake Sonoma Recreational Area. The XC race costs $20.

If you are looking at travel further afield, mtbcalendar.com tells us that racing is starting up in New York or British Columbia:

2008 Lake Sonoma Series Update

Some updates on this year's Lake Sonoma Series:

The Lake Sonoma Series Is Back! Rollercoaster fun at Liberty Glenn Campground for 2008. Sign up for all 6 races and knock off $20! This year Bike Monkey is hosting 7 races at Lake Sonoma. The April race is a NO-POINTS race that will cover a brand new 15-16 mile loop course and offer a $20 alternative to the Sea Otter madness on April 19th.

The only real change here is the August race, which was moved to August 16th so that it won't conflict with the Singlespeed World Championship. I will update all the races listed on the sidebar and over at MTB Calendar.

BikeMonkey's "Sea Otter Alternative"

Got some details from Carlos (head bikemonkey) about his "Sea Otter Alternative" race, the Lake Sonoma Rebellion:

It will be a cross-country mountain bike race of approximately 15 - 20 (difficult) miles at Lake Sonoma. This will NOT be the normal Billy-X course, but will incorporate parts of it, as well as some NEW stuff that we've built out there over the past year. Expect to hurt, and then drink beer and eat! All included. Entry fee will be around $30 (or less).

The race is currently set for April 19th.

Final 2007 Sonoma Series Race

The weekend is the last XC race in NorCal this year:

The final Lake Sonoma Series (#6) is upon us, and the points race is coming to a close. 16 prizes will be handed out to the top points leaders of the year. Some have a strong hold on the placings. But not everyone. It's down to the wire this Saturday at Lake Sonoma at the formerly-known-as Billy Cross races! (via BikeMonkey)

September Lake Sonoma Series Results

September Lake Sonoma Race

This Saturday is the monthly Lake Sonoma XC race:

"At our last event we had over 50 racers. It's so exciting to see people coming from as far away as the southern Bay Area to ride the rugged terrain at Lake Sonoma's Liberty Glenn Campground. It's also amazing how much hurt you can pack into a technical 5 mile course.

LSS #5 is this coming Saturday and it's the second to the last of the season. Points have been calculated to show the regulars where they stand, and in November for race #6 we're going to hand out some cool bling to the overall winners in each category (whoa that's a lot of bling!!). If you're a regular and you're in the running, you'll want to be there for the next two." (Via BikeMonkey.net)

August Lake Sonoma Series Results

Back in the swing of things, the August 25th Lake Sonoma Series race is done and the turnout continues to increase. 54 racers kicked butt on the new firetrail grading and didn't shed a tear. And baby they loved the new bridge Dean Wallace built for 'em. Whooo!
