August 6-9th is no more. September 16th through the 20th will be the new and last date to remember. The riding is way better at that time of year anyway, so be stoked. Sorry to all you school teachers and school kids, you may have to call in sick or get a sub. Remember that Sunday January 4th, right here, we will post the mail-in registration form and the address. The reg form also doubles as a coloring contest, so do your best and get creative with it, as those who do will be rewarded.Via SingleSpeed World Championships Durango 2009.

New Dates for 2009 SSWC
New dates and registration instructions for next year's (2009) Single Speed World Championship:
Sunday, November 23, 2008
SSWC09 1×1 Film Festival
If you heading out to Durango for next year's SSWC and a budding director, you might want to take note of this:
"We are now accepting singlespeed only videos to be shown throughout the weekend. Two movie nights will showcase the sweetness that we receive. The deadline for the films to be received is June 7th of 2009, so send a scratched dvd or a flawless VHS to Passion Productions 1×1 at 135 E. 13th street, Durango, Colorado 81301. The content of the films can be anything sweetly singlespeed. 7 minutes or under is preferred, but sweetness has no time limit, so keep it real. This will be an audience judged thing and the winner will win something from our future pile of good bike, or beer stuff."Via SSWC09 1×1 Film Festival « SingleSpeed World Championships Durango 2009

2008 SSWC Pre-ride Schedule
The folks organising the 2008 Singlespeed World Championship have released the pre-ride schedule leading up to the race this weekend. Although the race is sold out, you can still get in on the pre-race action:
"These rides are not being hosted by anyone in particular - someone will show up and take you on a sweet ride. If your training schedule will permit - then you may want to attend one (or all) of the following:Via SSWC Blog.
Wed 8/20 - Howarth Park Dirt Crit Santa Rosa, CA
Thursday 8/21 - Meet at the Java Hut in Fairfax at 10am and enjoy the Pine Mountain loop. It's a great loop in Marin with plenty of options to get back to town. Fairfax is about 45 minutes from Napa.
Friday 8/22 - Meet at the Lawndale parking lot at Annadel in Santa Rosa for a 10am ride. These are by far our favorite trails to ride - lots of single track - perfect for a one speed. Then in the evening head to American Cyclery in San Francisco at 4pm for a ride through the city across the Golden Gate Bridge for a BBQ in the Marin Headlands. It's about an hour drive to San Francisco from Napa.
Saturday 8/23 - Registration at Skyline Park starting at 12-5pm. Party to follow somewhere in town TBD.
Sunday 8/24 - Race 10am at Skyline Park. Get there early cuz someone will have something to say beforehand. Registration will open at 8am for those that don't make it Saturday. "

Congrats to top male finishers Jason Moeschler (WTB), Cameron Falconer (Freewheel/Hunter) and Rich Maile (Sacto CX). Top Female finishers were Rachel Lloyd (Proman), Maureen Kunz (Lost Coast Brew) and Athena Kraus (Pedaler).
It looks like Cameron Falconer, Rich Maile (of Sacto CX fame) and Gregg Stone snagged the sought-after "golden tickets" for the SSWC.
Some race reports are posted over at MTBR.

2008 Singlespeed World Championship Dates !
Just as I was about to post a bunch of boring links to tied you over for the weekend (don't worry you'll get them this weekend), this popped up in my rss reader:"Stay tuned...In between training and pre-riding the course, we're also working on this here website ... dates confirmed Aug. 23 - 24, 2008" (Via SSWC08==>Napa, California)and then this:
"I could give you a lot of details, but then it wouldn't be the SSWC. Some things have to stay cloaked in darkness for little while. We will have more details around the first of the year for everyone, including registration. The venue is Skyline Park, one of my favorite places to ride. Get to know poison oak and dry heat. It is a hard course and we are already thinking about prizes for those who actually finish all three laps. We want to set up rides every day leading up to the race and a few afterward too. We really want to show our out of town friends what it's like to ride in Northern California. We have enjoyed such great times from our hosts at other SSWC cities and want to share what we call home with those who make the trek West" (Via Dirt Rag {Web Rag})Judging by the website, it looks like the SSWC08 organizers are on the ball with their preparations for this year's event in Napa, CA.

Single Speed World Championship (SSWC) 2006
Although many people would argue this has nothing to do with mountain bikes (which would be false), Northern California (which would be true) or racing (which is still up in the air), the Single Speed World Championship has chosen Stockholm, Sweden for this year's world hootenany race. Stockholm follows last year's State College, PA selection.
