NorCal MTB Racing This Weekend: Father's Day

The week's NorCal MTB Racing This Weekend was written by guest blogger Dusty Downs. Dusty updates us today on races and racers throughout the region:

markweirdh.jpgNorCal MTB racing this weekend has the Fathers Day version of the CCCX Cross Country race in Monterey on Sunday June 15. Also on Fathers Day is Northstar's first DH race of the year at the awesome Northstar MTB Park. Both of these events are a blast and will surly fill your urge to race your mountain bikes and enjoy the trails. The weather looks to be good and this is one of the best ways to spend Fathers Day, riding your bike while spending time with family and friends.

A little farther North is Ashland's famed 12 Mile Super D race. Many NorCal riders venture to this 12 mile fun fest of a DH race because of Ashland's great trail network, and also to train and get ready for the bid daddy of NorCal races the Downieville Classic. The 12 Mile Super D is a great pre-event warm up for Downieville's demanding 17 mile Super D epic.

When in Ashland be sure and track down "Wild Bill" Rousell and utilize his great MTB Shuttle Service. This new business is properly named Ashland Mountain Adventures, and "Wild Bill" is a excellent host for this area, and he also boasts a large fleet of Specialized Bikes for rent. 'Wild Bill" knows all the trails and all the fun routes and will show any category of rider from Beginner to Expert where the fun trails are in Ashland.

WTB's Mark Weir will be there throwing it down at the 12 Mile Super D. Weir has been on quite a roll recently trying to prepare for his title defense of the legendary Downieville downhill. Weir has posted victories at the Summit Shorty Short Track race and the Ely Nevada Fears Tears and Beers event during the past 2 weeks. Rumor has it Weir has taken his training to another level using his SRM. Using all the features of the SRM, Weir is on a mission to train harder and target his physical peak for Downieville. This year is a special year for Downieville and Mark Weir, as Flyin Brian Lopes will contest the downhill, as well as hundreds of other MTB racers. Lopes is one of the World' best all around cyclists and will surely give his all to upset Weir. Also Jurgen Benke will again try and challenge the 'Downieville King' Mark Weir. Jurgen was not ready for Weir's dominance and popularity at last years race, so maybe this year he will be more prepared for the buzz saw of Weir's cranks spinning like mad on the Downieville trails. The big show that of Downieville's event is only one month away, July 11-13, and NorCal's racers will be using all the regional events leading up to this date to fine tune their legs.

Happy Fathers Day to all !!!

Thanks Dusty.
