As the 2006 UCI MTB Worlds start getting to the major events, the U.S. has brought home their first gold medal. Jill Kintner has successfully defended her MTX/4X world title, "Kintner led from start to finish in a flawless final run against Anneke Beerten (NED), Anita Molcik (AUT) and Jana Horakova (CZE) to take her second title in as many years and give the U.S. National Mountain Bike team its fifth world 4-cross title since 2002." Unfortunately, fellow US team members Tara Llanes (crash), Melissa Buhl and Jessica Vogt didn't make it through to the finals.
The U.S. men also had their share of disappointment. None of the team advanced to the finals, with defending champion Brian Lopes going out with a crash in the semi-finals.
